Retaining device for cabling

£ Negotiable Patent

Introduction

Cable management and management of flexible lines or tubing is an everyday need in a wide variety of industries including IT, clinical and construction, as well as in domestic use. If cables or flexible lines are left unmanaged such that they are strewn across a floor within a house or a hospital, they may constitute a safety hazard.

UCLan research have produced an apparatus for retaining flexible lines, which allows for the management of cabling in a safe manor.

Description

Cable management and management of flexible lines or tubing is an everyday need in a wide variety of industries including IT, clinical and construction, as well as in domestic use. If cables or flexible lines are left unmanaged such that they are strewn across a floor within a house or a hospital, they may constitute a safety hazard. If flexible lines contain fluid, if the lines remain uncontrolled, may become constricted or blocked due to kinks.

Cable management systems provide ways of managing flexible lines to control them in order to prevent them from being strewn across the floor and creating a safety hazard. However, these management systems provide a specific solution, based on the specific angle of a corner encountered, and for a line of a specific cross section.

Work has been done by many to mitigate some of these problems, none offers an entirely satisfactory solution.

UCLan research have designed an apparatus for retaining flexible lines which is versatile so that it allows for the management of different cross sectioned lines, both around different angles of corners, and along straight surfaces. This enables the lines to be managed in a safe way whilst also reducing the number of different geometries of retention devices that are required.

Additional work is ongoing with relation to this project, so there is potential for collaboration on further developments on this research.

Core advantages

The apparatus for retaining flexible lines has been developed to reduce the number of different geometries and sizes of retaining devices that are required when managing flexible lines.

Applications

  • The apparatus may be used for the management of flexible lines in the clinical environment.
  • The apparatus may be used for the management of flexible lines in the domestic environment
  • The apparatus may be used for the management of flexible lines in the industrial environment.
